The 2024 movie Wicked: Part 1 is a highly anticipated adaptation of the hit Broadway musical based on Gregory Maguire's novel, which reimagines the world of The Wizard of Oz from the perspective of its iconic witches. Directed by Jon M. Chu, this musical fantasy film explores the origins of Elphaba, the green-skinned girl who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, who rises to become the Good Witch.

The story begins with the two meeting as students at Shiz University in the Land of Oz. Despite their differences—Elphaba is ostracized for her appearance while Glinda enjoys popularity—the two form a profound friendship. However, their bond is tested when they encounter the Wizard of Oz and must choose between power, personal integrity, and loyalty. The narrative sets the stage for their destinies as the legendary witches of Oz.

The movie features Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, with a stellar supporting cast that includes Michelle Yeoh as the headmistress Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard. This is the first installment of a two-part story, with the sequel slated for 2025.
